Broadband TV News: Amphenol close to purchase of CommScope broadband connectivity and cable unit

Story from Broadband TV News:

Amphenol is close to finalising an agreement to acquire CommScope Holding’s broadband connectivity and cable division, according to a Wall Street Journal report, quoting sources with knowledge of the matter.

The transaction, which could be announced as soon as today (Monday), is anticipated to be valued at approximately $10.5 billion, including debt.

Headquartered in Connecticut, Amphenol specialises in designing interconnect products, fibre-optic connectors, antennas, sensors, and specialty cables utilised across sectors such as aerospace and information technology. The company currently maintains a market capitalisation near $125 billion.

CommScope, based in North Carolina, offers infrastructure solutions for communication, data centre, and entertainment networks. Its connectivity and cable unit, often referred to as CCS, represents its largest segment by both sales and operating income, supplying fibre-optic and copper connectivity cables for applications including cable television, residential broadband, and data centres

CommScope has faced significant debt obligations and has relied on asset divestitures to manage its liabilities. Decreased customer demand and broader macroeconomic challenges have further impacted the company’s performance.

Earlier this year, CommScope sold its mobile-networks business to Amphenol for more than $2 billion.
