CNN has hired Brad Smith, previously of Yahoo! Finance and Cheddar, to serve as an anchor of its domestic FAST channel CNN Headlines.Smith will be based out of Atlanta and will start later this summer.CNN Worldwide CEO Mark Thompson has placed a priority on transitioning to digital and streaming, with plans to launch a new service later this year, in what he called “the first true news streaming service.” Among other things, CNN.com has started a paywall, and it will be part of an “all access” subscription offering. Axios reported that CNN is adding more live and original programming to its FAST Channel.At Yahoo! Finance, Smith covered equity markets, hosted Morning Brief and interviewed CEOs and lawmakers. At Cheddar, he hosted the opening bell show, and anchored coverage of the 2020 election. He started his career at Nasdaq as a global listings services marketing specialist.
